The Miami Vice Is A Frozen Cocktail Combo Cooler Than Crockett and Tubbs

More colorful than a pastel Armani suit, sweeter than a Ferrari Daytona, cooler than Crockett and Tubbs, The Miami Vice pays tribute to Michael Mann's iconic '80s series, which featured Don Johnson and Philip Michael Thomas, as rogue detectives amongst the neon lights and hot nights of the Magic City. It’s a fun-loving mashup where the creamy, tropical vibes of a Pina Colada collide with the bright, fruity kick of a Strawberry Daiquiri. The result is a two-toned, frozen masterpiece that’s pure South Beach in a glass— perfect for turning up the heat at any happy hour or after-hours pool party.

Miami Vice Ingredients

For the Strawberry Daiquiri

  • 2 oz Light Rum
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 4-5 Fresh or Frozen Strawberries
  • 1 cup Ice

For the Pina Colada

  • 2 oz Light Rum
  • 2 oz Cream of Coconut
  • 2 oz Pineapple Juice
  • 1 cup Ice

How to Make A Miami Vice

  1. Prepare the Pina Colada: In a blender, combine ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour the mixture into a separate container and rinse the blender.
  2. Prepare the Strawberry Daiquiri: In a clean blender, combine all ingredients and blend until smooth.
  3. Pour the Pina Colada mixture into a large glass, filling it halfway.
  4. Carefully and slowly pour the Strawberry Daiquiri mixture over the back of a spoon into the same glass. This will create the distinct layered look.
  5. Garnish with a fresh pineapple wedge or a strawberry.

Using frozen strawberries will help achieve a thicker, more slushy consistency for the Daiquiri layer, which makes it easier to layer on top of the Pina Colada. Ensure both mixtures are thick for a clean separation.

Miami Vice Riff

For a non-alcoholic version, simply omit the rum from both recipes. You can also experiment with other fruits for the daiquiri layer, such as mango or passion fruit. For a more intense rum flavor, consider using a dark or spiced rum in one of the layers, or a high-quality aged rum for added complexity.
