Start Your Summer Tiki Obsession With The Coconutty Islander
Mixing vibrant colors, exotic flavors, and a healthy dose of kitsch, Tiki cocktails are the perfect drink when fun is on the menu. This summer, Omni Hotels & Resorts has teamed up with renowned Tiki historian and cocktail author Jeff “Beachbum” Berry to bring the spirit of the tropics alive with Tiki Social, a pop-up bar and immersive experience running now through Labor Day at select Omni locations. While nothing beats experiencing the vibrant atmosphere of Tiki Social in person, Berry was kind enough to share his recipes with us so you can embark on your own tropical escape at home. His first recipe, The Coconutty Islander, blends the bite of white rum and fresh lime juice with the lush sweetness of cream of coconut and liqueur. It's best served in a hollowed-out coconut for the full island experience.
Coconutty Islander Ingredients
- 2 oz White Rum
- 1/2 oz Macadamia Nut liqueur
- 1/2 oz Passion Fruit Liqueur
- 3/4 oz Cream Of Coconut
- 3/4 oz Fresh Lime Juice
- 1 1/2 oz Coconut Water (Unsweetened, Unflavored, No Pulp)
- 1 Hollowed-Out Young Coconut
How To Make A Coconutty Islander
- Fill a cocktail shaker full of ice.
- Add ingredients and shake until blended and chilled.
- Strain into hollow coconut.
- Garnish with edible purple orchids, pineapple fronds, a lime wheel, a tiki cocktail pick, and the straw of your choice.
Cream of coconut is made with sweetened condensed milk, which can separate in the can. Be sure to mix it thoroughly before measuring. Shake all ingredients vigorously with ice until thoroughly chilled and the mixture is perfectly emulsified for that ideal velvety texture.
