Another week, another appearance from TSR President OJ Lima on the Black and Brown podcast. The second installment of the three-part series has officially dropped, and this time the conversation centers on the upcoming second release from Kinfolk Trust, OJ's whiskey brand, or as he calls it, his "forever art project."
As with the inaugural batch, the new whiskey is a collaboration from Bainbridge Organic Distillers. For the new release, Bainbridge founder Keith Barnes let Lima taste a variety of barrels that went back to the distillery's earliest years. "(Keith) said 'Oh I have these older 10 year old barrels but they're in smaller barrels so the proof is really accelerated'," Lima explained.
During the episode, OJ revealed that roughly six barrels will make up the final blend. Some of the barrels sampled ranged in proof from 150 to 169 proof. Along with barley, wheat, and experimental barrels, the blend is expected to be bottled at cask strength, though the final proof is still being determined.
As OJ says, "Now I'm coming back with a second batch and the second batch is a little different." After tasting the high-proof samples, the reaction around the table said it all: "It's gas, fam."
