It uses a traditional sour mash process—reusing spent mash for fermentation consistency—and relies on a grain bill that fits neither bourbon nor rye definitions. Michter's barrels this spirit at a low 103 entry proof, allowing the whiskey to extract more natural wood sugars during aging for a richer, remarkably smooth high-proof release.
